Business Niche

Read this in a book today “Somewhere along the way, you may have been given some terrible advice to choose a niche.” From Born For This by Chris Guillebeau. He states that you don’t need a niche despite all the advice that you get. He sets choosing your passion down to three things, does it have; Flow, Joy, or Money (income), find your combination of those things, and you will find what you were born to do, I’m paraphrasing.

It would be best if you didn’t focus on a niche. It would be best if you focus on what you were born to do. Now I kind of agree with this sentiment because niches are overrated, and I know all the advice today is to choose your niche and choose it wisely; you might have heard the saying, “The riches are in the niches.” But I find it difficult. Because I have many passions, I have many dreams, and I have many things that I would like to accomplish, and so many of these things I’m doing right now.

Can anyone fill me in on the wisdom of choosing a niche? Why should we choose a niche? Maybe it helps you understand what I’m all about? Perhaps it puts us in a neat box, categorises us. Or maybe it just makes other people feel more comfortable around you. I don’t know. How about you? Is anybody else free from niches?
